Governor Douye Diri has reiterated the calls for security beef up and surveillance at border communities with the neighbouring states of Delta and Rivers in ensuring that Bayelsa State does not become a safe haven to criminal elements.

Governor Diri gave the charge at the weekly Executive Council meeting in the Government House Yenagoa even as he addressed the reports of the United States of America listing Bayelsa among states with high-security threats.

The worsening security situation across Nigeria has continued to generate palpable tensions among the citizens, just as the leaders of various regions and states were seeking ways of safeguarding the lives of their people.

Governor Diri at the weekly EXCO meeting expressed worries over the recent attacks on border communities between the Abua/ Odual council area of Rivers State and Ogbia in Bayelsa State.

In winning the fight against the prevailing security challenges, the citizens must see it as an overall responsibility. Hence Governor Diri called on Bayelsans to be vigilant and to protect the state from any person or group with criminal tendencies.
