Gbaramatu oil spillage: Citizens Demand Quick Intervention, Clean up

On February 16, 2021, residents of Gbaramatu communities in Warri Southwest Local Government Area of Delta state raised an alarm over a crude oil spillage incident that polluted their environment.

Recent findings by Plus TV Africa revealed that the spillage which has been left unattended by relevant authorities has inflicted various pains on residents of the affected communities who are appealing for assistance and treatment of the people who are in a deep state of vulnerability.

It’s been over two months since that residents of Gbaramatu communities in Warri Southwest Local Government Area have been contending with the negative effects of a crude oil spillage that occurred in their area, affecting the people with their various means of livelihood.

Their polluted environment which was caused by faulty assets belonging to an oil firm operating in their communities has been left unattended up till date.

Apart from the environmental pollution that has also threatened their fishing and farming business; their main sources of living, the people’s health is also running at risk.

The state government has, however, ordered an investigation to ascertain the cause of the spillage.

While the cause of the oil spill is being awaited, residents of Gbaramatu communities think it’s only fair for the government and the oil companies to commence the clean-up process in good time.
