The Federal Parastatals and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria, FEPPPAN, on Thursday, April 22, 2021, directed its members across the country to refrain from participating in any form of protest scheduled for Friday, April 23, by the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP.
A statement by the FEPPPAN President-General, Temple Ubani, said consequent to the signing of the Minimum Wage ACT by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 for the active workers, the pensioner’s body and other retirees unions have been variously prevailing on the government to implement the pensioners’ component of the law in accordance with the Constitution of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
The FEPORAN called on President Buhari to speedily intervene and ensure that pensions adjustment for retirees are implemented without further delay, noting that its engagements with the government so far are satisfactory and in the final stages before issuance a circular for implementation.
The FEPPPAN reminded that it had no plans to embark on any mass action or street protests against the government.
The NUP is asking the Federal Government to implement consequential adjustment on pensions as already effected on minimum wage for active workers.
