A chieftain of the All Progressives Congres, APC, in Edo state, John Mayaki, has pleaded for an out-of-court settlement in the five billion naira suit instituted by Mike Igini against him.

Mayaki had accused Igini, who is the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, of holding secret meetings with Governor Godwin Obaseki to rig the September 19, 2020, governorship election in Edo State.

Aggrieved by the allegation, Igini slammed a defamation suit against the APC chieftain, describing his claims as malicious and targeted at destroying his reputation.

At the resumed hearing of the case before a High Court in Benin city, Mayaki, who was the spokesman of the Edo State APC Media Campaign Council for the 2020 election, pleaded for an adjournment to allow him to conclude a settlement which he initiated with the plaintiff.

The case was subsequently adjourned by Justice Victor Oviawe till June 21, for a settlement report.
