The Federal Government has said that the seven billion Naira reserved to secure the 104 unity schools across Nigeria has been used to beef up security and install other required equipment to protect students and facilities.

Speaking at the Peace Corps of Nigeria’s “peace walk” against incessant invasion and kidnapping of students educational institutions in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, who spoke through the Director, Nigeria National Volunteers Services, Olushola Dada, said the government is working with host communities of all unity schools to stop the abduction of students in the country.

The National Commandant, Peace Corps of Nigeria, Dickson Akoh, disclosed that over 1,179 students have been kidnapped in the past seven years, calling on the private sector and other well-meaning Nigerians to join the Federal Government in securing educational institutions.

Akoh called on the private sector and other well-meaning Nigerians to work with the Federal Government in tackling the incessant abduction and killing of students across the country.

The peace walk organized by the Peace Corps of Nigeria, African Union of the Economic, Social, and Cultural Council, National Association of Voluntary Uniform Organizations, and Coalition of Nigerian Youths on securing affairs, aimed at drawing the national consciousness of both state and non-actors to the menace.
