Idriss Deby, Chad’s President who just secured his sixth term as president has been confirmed dead as reported by an army spokesperson, General Azem Bermandoa Agouna on state television.
Deby who was 68 years old reportedly died on the battlefield while defending his country. He had gone to visist soldiers battling rebels and sustained some grave injuries at the frontlines. The military has disclosed that the president’s son Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, a 4-star general will replace him.
Deby who postponed his victory speech after the recently concluded election to visit the Chadian Soldiers secured 79.3 per cent of the total April 11 presidential elections.
Five government officials were killed in the attack, while 36 were severely injured.
