NSCDC Raises Alarm On Increase In Drug-Related Crimes In Calabar

The increase in criminal activities in Calabar and its environment over drug-related matters have been a source of concern to security services in Cross River State.

Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC Cross River State Command, Majekodunmi Abidemi stated this in Calabar while parading a suspected drug dealers whose mode of trade is on the maritime corridor for travelers to the neighboring Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.

The 30-year-old suspect, Tandem Cobham, who lived in Calabar South Local Government Area, according to the commandant, was arrested with a large substance of marijuana by the intelligence unit of the corps following a tip-off.

Majekodunmi who said the suspect would be charged to court after investigation called on parents to watch over their children.

Cobham, however, denied involvement in the matter he was arrested for, saying he was innocent of the said crime.

The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, had recently raised an alarm and launched a stop and search enforcement team in Calabar to curb the movement of drugs in and out of the state.
