The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, has been commended by the electorate for conducting one of the most peaceful and credible elections in recent times.
Those who spoke to reporters during the April 17 council polls in the state said the efforts put in place by the electoral umpire set the pace for a credible and reliable electoral process in the country.
The local government and councilorship elections in Rivers State have been described as peaceful and credible.
This was the view of the chairmanship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas while speaking with reporters shortly after casting their votes.
Also, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paulinus Nsirim, while fielding questions from reporters after voting in ward 16 unit 20 in Obio/Akpor, dismissed the insinuations of voter apathy in the election.
Some chieftains of the PDP in the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area gave credence to the electoral umpire for its proactiveness and the PDP for allowing democracy to thrive.
The election commenced at 9:00 am and was concluded by 5:00 pm.
