The Bayelsa State International Airport has been formally granted operational licence to commence day-time commercial flights by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.

The approval followed a final facility inspection by the agency as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Captain Musa Nuhu, expressed satisfaction on the new airport meeting the necessary requirements.

The Bayelsa International Airport witnessed its maiden flight on February 14, 2019.
However, an operational licence was yet to be issued by the regulatory bodies due to non-completion of the parameter fence among other requirements.

Two years later, officials of the NCAA alongside the state Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, took a final look at the facility which finally met the standards of the agency for approval

The NCAA DG and his team, thereafter, proceeded to the Government House where the official handover of the licence document was made to the Governor.

For Governor Douye Diri and Bayelsans, the granting of an operational license to the airport is a major feat recorded by the state that would attract investments and boost the socio-economic landscape of the state.
