The Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Plateau State has joined a protest to press for demands by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, for financial independence as the third arm of government.

The protesters who were seen carrying placards while singing and dancing stormed the Plateau State Government House to register their grievances.

An uneasy calm continues to reign in courts across Plateau State and Nigeria after Labour leaders took charge of court gates following the nationwide protest embarked upon by the JUSUN to demand financial autonomy.

The strike action which is now in its second week has gained the support of others.

Perhaps, lawyers are also bearing the brunt as courts across the country remain under lock and key which formed the basis for their participation in the protest.

Their efforts to get the Governor’s attention after waiting for hours at the Government House gate was unsuccessful, however, the State Attorney General showed up.

As the contest between the government and JUSUN continues with no one knowing how long it would last, one thing is certain, the situation is taken its toll on citizens in need of court services in Nigeria.
