The recent approval of three new universities in Delta state and the subsequent inauguration of the project management committee by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is raising concerns among residents in the state.

Those who spoke to reporters are of the opinion that the state government should focus on properly managing the existing ones instead of establishing new universities

Recently the National Universities Commission, NUC, approved the upgrade of three institutions in Delta state to universities.

This development has made Delta a state with the highest number of universities in Nigeria.

While inaugurating project management committee members for the newly approved universities, the state governor was emphatic when he said the Sharp increase in degree programs necessitated the upgrade of the institutions. But some Delta residents think otherwise.

Although many view education as the bedrock of a developed society, there is also the belief that other sectors of the economy also matter and must be given the required attention.

Delta state presently has, four universities, two belonging to the federal government, and five are privately owned.
