As the Industrial action embarked upon by Judiciary workers lingers on, members of the legal profession in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, have been counting their losses.

The lawyers who are appealing to both the Federal Government and the striking judicial staff to find a middle ground on issues being contended said the industrial action is putting avoidable strain on the nation’s justice delivery system.

Nigeria’s judicial system is no doubt feeling the impact of the nationwide strike embarked upon by members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, aimed at pressing home demand for financial autonomy.

As the strike enters the second week, some lawyers in Yenagoa have expressed sadness over the stoppage of various important judicial processes including the ongoing Panel of Inquiry into acts of Police brutality and their loss of potential earnings.

Describing the strike as badly timed, the lawyers called on the JUSUN leadership and the Federal Government to approach the negotiation table with sincerity in order to quickly resolve issues under contention.

Many Nigerians are hopeful that efforts being made by stakeholder institutions including the Ministry of Labour and the National Assembly would yield fruit and once again activate the wheels of justice.
