Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, wants some clarifications made with regards to the financial autonomy reportedly granted to the states’ judiciary and legislature by the Federal Government.
He insisted that the definition of the policy has distortions.
Governor Umahi made the submission while speaking in Abakiliki, the state capital, at a valedictory court session to mark the retirement from service of the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Anselm Nwaigwe.
The Governor suggested that what should be done to resolve the financial autonomy controversy is for the Federal Government to have the budget of the judiciary and legislative arms of government on the first line charge.
Umahi expressed concern about what he descibed as a situation where baseless petitions are written against sitting judges to the Nigeria Judicial Council, and in the end the petitioners go scot free.
Governor Umahi congratulated Justice Anselm Nwaigwe for the reforms he brought to the state judicial system in his 18-months reigns as the state’s Chief Judge.
