Reactions have continued to trail the recent indefinite closure of the only Government Day Secondary School, Rimin Zayam, in the Toro Local Government Area of  Bauchi State, North-East Nigeria.

The school was shut by the Commissioner for Education, following the arrest of the principal of the school by policemen, over a disciplinary action taken by one of the teachers, on a disobedient girl.

Some members of the community are calling on the Bauchi State government to revisit its action for the benefit of innocent children.

Abubakar Mohamed is a member of the Rimin Zayam Students’ Association, RZSA, as well as a representative of the Parents Teachers Association, PTA, they both spoke on the telephone and condemned the actions of the police who arrested the principal of the school, without following due process.

The Commissioner for Education, Usman Tilde, said there is no going back on the closure of the school, as doing so will serve as a  lesson to the community.

Bauchi police have not yet issued any statement on the matter. They said investigations are still ongoing.
