The current security challenges in Nigeria have prompted Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to canvass once more for the decentralisation of the nation’s security architecture as a means of checking the spate of insecurity in the country.
Governor Obaseki made this call against the backdrop of a funeral service held in Ogun State.
The event was the funeral service of the late Senior Advocate of Nigeria, John Odubela.
Eminent personalities including Edo State Governor, his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, and Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, had converged to pay their last respects to a man who was a major player in the Governor’s legal defence team.
Officiating Minister, Adegbemi Adewale, of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Diocese of Remo uses the opportunity to call the attention of political leaders to the prevailing security challenges in the country.
Governor Obaseki reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Governors Forum to tackling the issues headlong.
He pointed at decentralisation of the nation’s security architecture as one of the ways out hinting that Edo is organising the local vigilante and training community policemen to be able to effectively tackle crime in the state.
