Kano State Police Commissioner, Samaila Dikko, said training and educating members of the community on security issues can help in tackling the insecurity challenges faced by the country even as he observed that drug consumption fuels criminality.

A community leader in Kano State, Professor Shehu Garba, shared the same sentiment when the Police Commissioner visited the Dala Area Command to ascertain the impact of police work in the command’s jurisdiction.

The Police Commissioner said the best way to tackle insecurity is when the police come closer to the community level where vital information can be gathered.

Dikko counseled his officers and men to court the support and friendship of the community. A community leader, Garba Shehu, said that training and educating members of the community on critical security challenges would help in tackling the menace.

Some community members attributed the insecurity challenges facing the country to drug abuse.

Most of the complaints forwarded to the Police Commissioner are lack of manpower and patrol vehicles as police sometimes use commercial tricycles during the security patrol.
