Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, alongside other state government officials have received the first jab of the Oxford AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
The state’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency had reiterated that the controversy on the vaccine is not new, and has been the case with several other vaccines before it.
Two weeks after the arrival of the Oxford AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in Taraba, the Primary Healthcare Development Agency flagged off its administration beginning with top government officials in the state.
The choice of recipients is strategic, to disabuse the minds of citizens on hearsays, on the safety of the vaccine.
Governor Ishaku, Speaker, Joseph Kunini, and several state government officials were the first to take the first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Despite the effort by the state government to convince Taraba residents of the efficacy of the vaccine, some residents are still sceptical.
The Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Aminu Jauro, said that the controversy on the vaccine is the same with several other vaccines before it, particularly the polio vaccine.
Taraba State has received 56,250 dosages of the Oxford AztraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
Its administration is based on a priority list, with health workers, and the aged topping the list.
