Researchers from the University of Toronto cybersecurity group, Citizen Lab have confirmed that TikTok’s algorithm poses no national security threat to the United States.
The research published on Monday dispels the initial and widespread narrative established by former U.S President, Donald Trump during his administration, where he banned the Chinese owned company, ByteDance from operating within the United States.
The executive order then led to a scurrying of the highest bidder, thankfully, TikTok managed to hold out.
The report however revealed that the app is built around addictive algorithms and is similar to Facebook but also the Chinese company may be mandated to or imposed on by the Chinese government to share the app data.
It remains unclear how the recent research will affect TikTok’s standing in the United States, as Joe Biden, the current President suspended the sale of TikTok to U.S cougars while a review was underway. Read more about it here
