Governor Douye Diri says Bayelsa state is willing to partner with the Federal Government and other relevant agencies to use agriculture as alternative means of shifting the nation’s attention away from a monocultural economy.

Governor Diri spoke during the visit of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mustapha Shehuri, in Yenagoa, the state capital.

As part of the plans of the Federal Government to diversify the country’s economy from over dependency on oil and gas to agriculture, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development was in Bayelsa State to inspect projects embarked upon by his Ministry.

He first paid a courtesy call on Governor Diri in the Government House, Yenagoa.

Governor Diri informed the visitors about the agricultural potentials embedded in the state besides oil and gas, stressing that if it is fully harnessed, it could feed Nigeria and beyond.

He emphasized the state’s readiness to partner with the Federal Government to boost local food production and sufficiency.

Governor Diri’s administration had placed a premium on the agricultural sector to drive its prosperity agenda.
