Two factions of the African Action Congress, AAC party, led by Leonard Nzenwa and Omoyele Sowore have clashed at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Headquarters in Abuja over power tussle.

The Sowore led-faction had earlier staged a protest at the Commission’s building to kick against electoral malpractices by the Yakubu Mahmood-led team but 10 members were arrested and detained by the security deployed to the area.

Sowore headed to the INEC Headquarters after being informed that security men attached to the electoral office had arrested 10 members of his faction from the AAC party who staged a protest against electoral malpractices. But it was alleged by the men in black that they were caught attempting to burn down the Commission’s building.

At the Commission’s Headquarters, men of the Department of State Security were seen hanging around the area to maintain law and order.

Upon arrival, the leaders of the two factions alongside their members clashed at the INEC Headquarters with different written inscriptions to pass their messages to Yakubu.

The power tussle between Sowore and Nzenwa appears to be lingering as they both laid claims over who heads the AAC party.

There were reports that Sowore who is the founder of the party was expelled on August 9, 2019, over alleged misappropriation of funds from foreign donors and used for personal use in contravention of the provisions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In his defense, Sowore had claimed that the matter had been resolved through legal means.
