The leadership crisis rocking the Abia State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, is far from being resolved as the sacked Chairman, Uchenna Obigwe claims he is still in charge of the union.
The National Executive Council of the NLC had in a memo dated 17th February 2021 and signed by its General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, removed Obigwe from office.
The now embattled Obigwe was promptly replaced with the Chairman of the Abia State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Eze Idima.
The National leadership of the workers union insisted that the removal of Obigwe from office followed due process, as it was based on the recommendations of the Election Petition Committee.
But Obigwe argued that he has a court order restraining Idima from taking over the office.
Obigwe, therefore, urged the Ayuba Waba-led NLC to refrain from what he described as “sowing seed of discord” in the Abia state chapter of NLC.
A call was put through to Eze Idima for his reaction to the claim by Uchenna Obigwe of the restraining court order, but a hostile response was received.
