Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Bio is currently facing some serious corruption allegations that are casting aspersion on her husband’s claim to combat corruption.
The Africanist Press released a report with claims that the First Lasy spent a whopping $780,000 of public funds on her personal engagements, travel and accomodation for foreign guests whilst launching her Hands Off Our Girls campaign sometime in 2018.
The public funds were supposedly spent in the second half of 2018 on purchasing furniture, electrical equipment and all other related expenses.
The first lady reported a sum of $3 million in government funds since her husband assumed the role of president which were speculatively out of the budget allocation and were not approved by the parliament.
The Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Comission has now launched an investigation into the management of funds by the First Lady’s office as a follow up from claims from the Auditor-General’s office.
