While discussing the progress women have made in terms of women’s rights in commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day, themed #ChooseToChallenge, Lilian Mabula, an Activist and Real Estate Executive from Tanzania has cited the Stigma from divorce as one of the major challenges women still face in today’s society.

According to her, the biggest challenge today is the stigma for getting divorced. Women are subject to name-calling, and stigma for choosing to walk away from a marriage that doesn’t favor them anymore. She also disclosed that many of them suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

However, on the flip side, she says in terms of what women are doing right in Tanzania, there is more female representation in the Parliament. As many as 40 percent of women are currently lawmakers which she believed was fuelled by having a female Vice President.
