The Federal Government says it has paid more attention to policies that promote poverty reduction in the country.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar-Farouq who stated this in Umuahia while flagging the Federal Government Cash Grant for Rural Women in Abia State, noted that the essence is to address some developmental challenges facing Nigeria.

Represented by her Permanent Secretary, Nura Alkali, the Minister disclosed that the Special Investment Programme was designed to provide grants to the poorest rural dwellers.

The Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, represented by his Deputy, Ude Oko-Chukwu, said the programme is packaged to empower 2500 Abia rural women with a seed capital grant of N20,000 each.

Oko-Chukwu recalled that the programme was part of President Muhammad Buhari’s pledge to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

Already, training and onboarding of independent monitors for the National Social Investment Programmes in Abia State have been concluded in Umuahia.
