United States President, Joe Biden has successfully scored his first legislative win at the House of Representatives with the $1.9 Trillion COVID-19 Relief Package for American citizens.

The president faced a lot of opposition from Republicans who were against the bill due to its financial implications and also cited that the current package was unnecessary.

However, Democrats argued that not only have several died due to the pandemic, but millions of others have also been rendered jobless.

This is the second relief package U.S citizens will be receiving from the government due to the pandemic, an initial $600 was passed in December.

This package will see citizens receiving as much as $1400 to individuals earning less than $75,000, $400 per week federal unemployment benefit till August for rent and mortgage payments during the pandemic.

Nine per cent of the total budget is expected to cater to fighting the pandemic, $19 billion will go to increasing the public health workforce while the rest will focus on the welfare of the citizens, the minimum wage will be increased to $15 per hour

The representatives voted 219 – 212 in favour of the relief package.
