Relief has finally come to the motoring public in Lagos, as the Federal Government on Saturday, reopened fully the Third Mainland Bridge to traffic.

The reopening comes after several months of partial closure, to allow for repair works to be done on some sections of the over 20km bridge.

The Third Mainland Bridge was partially shut in July 2020 to effect replacement of 12 expansion joints and bearings.

The repair work was initially scheduled for completion on January 2021 but was postponed further by one month due to the #EndSARS protests last year and their aftermath.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olukayode Popoola, said that now that the repair works have been fully completed, the motoring public can now heave a sigh of relief.

The Director of Highways, Bridges, and Designs, Emmanuel Adeoye, in his remarks, explained that repairs will still continue under the bridge for the next 12 months but would not affect traffic.
