Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has expressed concerns over the increasing spate of the communal crisis being reported in some parts of the state.
The Governor, who spoke in Abakaliki, the state capital, at two separate meetings he held with stakeholders of the warring Effium and Ezza Effium clans of the state, regretted the negative impacts such crises are having on the image of the state.
The meeting called at the instance of Governor Umahi is coming on the heels of a renewed reprisal attack between the local tribal neighbours of Effium and Ezza Effium clans.
Violent crises had erupted between the two clans of Effium community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area on January 22, 2021, over the leadership control of a motor park, which later escalated, resulting in a bloodbath with many casualties.
Despite the state government and security agencies efforts to restore order in the affected community, reports have it that the killings and destruction of properties have continued.
With the death toll now put at 25, the Ebonyi State Governor is worried about the bloodletting.
Governor Umahi is beaming the security searchlight on local leaders, threatening to sanction any community in the state ridden with the avoidable crisis.
