The Imo State Police Command has confirmed that the former Imo State Governor representing the Imo West Senatorial district has been released from police custody.
This follows a violent break-in on a property that was shut and confiscated by the sitting governor, Hope Uzodinma – the Royal Palm Spring Estate along the Akachi road in Owerri.
According to the PPRO, the property was violently broken into by thugs led by the former state governor which led to his arrest. Okorocha alongside some of his subordinates such as Steve Asunobi, Iasbery Anyanwu and Ijeoma Ogboanusi were arrested as well.
The Governors Forum is currently seeking how to establish a truce between both parties. Governor David Umahi , the Governor of Ebonyi State and leader of the Forum was quoted in a statement as saying:
“South-east leaders are capable of settling their disputes internally instead of washing their linen in public.
“We sue for calm among the supporters of both leaders to ensure a timely and amicable resolution of the disagreement,”
He also encouraged Imo residents to go about their daily activities as usual.
