The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved the use of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in Nigeria.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved the use of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in Nigeria.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr Mojisola Adeyeye, who made the announcement while addressing journalists at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja, said that the vaccine can be stored in temperatures between two to eight degrees centigrade.

She explained that there are three additional vaccines currently at various levels of testing, however, evaluation on the Astrazeneca vaccine showed effectiveness against the UK variant of the virus, which was reported in Nigeria.

Dr Adeyeye also disclosed that the South African variant of the virus is yet to be reported in the country, adding that the agency has over thirty herbal remedies undergoing review for listing as well.
