Election Petition Tribunal for the Zamfara State House of Assembly by-election sitting in Kaduna has fixed Tuesday, February 16, for the pre-trial conference for all petitioners.
Chairman of the three-man committee, Justice Bukunola Adebiyi said the tribunal will also discuss modalities for hearing of petitions.
The petitioner, Dankande Bello of the All Progressives Congress, APC had filed a suit challenging the result of the December 5th by-election for the Bakura constituency into the Zamfara state House of Assembly.
He said that the APC participated in the first round of the election that was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, but that the electoral body went ahead to conduct a rerun four days later despite all odds not favouring the conduct of the election.
Counsel for the petitioner, Mahmud Abubakar said his client approached the tribunal because he felt disenchanted over the result of the election.
Counsel for the first and second respondents, Benson Igbanoi in his prayer asked the tribunal to strike out the petition for lack of merit.
The tribunal will begin hearing the six applications filed by the respondents on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.
