Governors express dissenting views over Farmer/Herder Crisis

As the tensions over the security concerns brought about by the farmers/herders crisis continue to hold sway, Governors from different states are beginning to share opposing sentiments on how to resolve the crisis permanently.

A statement by Governor Bala Mohammed that herdsmen need to carry firearms to duly protect themselves as the government opened a can of worms.

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has criticized the statement citing that not only is it illegal to carry weapons in the constitution but it is also an act of lawlessness to encourage herders by suggesting the forests across the nation are for them.

Mohammed has in a statement claimed that Bauchi State has found a way to tolerate all ethnic divisions and also took the opportunity to commend Simon Lalong’s approach to the matter, urging other state governments to follow suit.

He concluded by saying that Nigeria belongs to no sect of people and therefore herders should be accepted wherever they choose to go.
