Impeachment trial

Fifty-six United States Senators have voted in favour of moving ahead with Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.

The 45th President of the United States has been charged with inciting violence at the Capitol on January 6th after a baseless claim that the elections were rigged in favour of the now sitting president, Joe Biden.

Trump’s lawyers had earlier argued that the former President should not be facing trial after his tenure as president and considered the impeachment unconstitutional.

There are, however, concerns that the impeachment may take an unlikely turn as Democrats may not be able to convince a total of 17 Republican Senators to convict the former President.

If Donald Trump is impeached, he would be barred from ever contesting for office. Since his unceremonious exit, Donald Trump has moved on to other things and created an Office of the Former President in Florida.
