Two men in the Aceh Province of Indonesia were lashed 77 strokes of the cane each in front of 100 people for engaging in homosexual activities.
The duo were arrested in November after local residents caught them engaged in sexual romp in a rented apartment. Although, Indonesia claims to be tolerant of homosexuals, Aceh remains the only province that operates under the Shariah law that bans such activities.
It was reported that within the last one year, at least 60 public floggings have taken place in Aceh, despite the Coronavirus lockdowns. Crimes range from drinking alcohol to wearing indecent clothes for women, adultery and homosexual relations.
