The second wave of the coronavirus shows no sign of slowing down as an estimated 1,883 new cases of the dreaded virus were recorded on Saturday alone. The number is the highest daily figure recorded in Nigeria by the NCDC.

There are fears that part of the reason the numbers continue to follow the trend os due to the time lapse between testing and getting the results.

Another factor that could contribute to the spread is ignorance, as many Nigerians have refused to come to terms with the fact that the pandemic is real and is in fact in Nigeria.

An added contributor is the new variant of the disease which has been described to be 50% more infectious and deadlier than the former strain.

Although the government had initially disclosed that there are no plans to instruct a lockdown due to economic shortfalls, Lagos, Abuja, Plateau and Kano States remain the most affected stats in the country.

The number of infected people with Coronavirus in Nigeria stands at a record total of 130,557. The number of coronavirus cases has continued to maintain an upward trend since the yuletide last year.
