Germany’s health minister, Jens Spahn has announced the purchase of a new antibody-based drug to help combat the growing spread of Coronavirus. The health minister announced that the monoclonal antibodies will be first used in Germany.
Spahn explained that the drugs function as a passive vaccination and could prevent a serious progression of the disease if administered at the early phases.
A total of 200,000 units were purchased for $487 million. Reports have it that the same drugs, REGN-COV2 antibody cocktail from US company Regeneron, were used to treat the now-former president of the United States, Donald Trump when he got infected in October.
Germany spent the yuletide in lockdown and has recently extended the lockdown till February 14.
