The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Muazu, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the security chiefs to do the needful, to end insecurity in Zamfara State and other parts of the Northwest geopolitical zone.
The speaker made the call while meeting with local government sole administrators, to discuss how to stop the resurgence of the pocket attacks, by recalcitrant bandits, in the state.
A statement by the Director-General, Press Affairs of the state’s Assembly, Mustapha Jafaru, said the leadership of the Assembly is deeply concerned with the security situation in the state, which informed the meeting with the local government sole administrators, to chart a way forward, on how to rid the menace of banditry, that has crippled the socio-economic lives of the people, over a decade now.
It says that the meeting with sole administrators has opened a window of opportunity, to interact with other relevant stakeholders, such as traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and the disbanded volunteer groups, popularly known as Yansakai, to find lasting solutions to the insecurity.
The statement also said that the state legislature will not fold its arms, watching innocent citizens being killed by criminal elements.
The participants harped on the issue of good governance at the local level, as one of the panaceas to the myriad of security challenges, facing Zamfara State.
