The face-off between the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU and the Ebonyi State government seems far from being over after a meeting on Tuesday, reportedly ended in a deadlock.

The national body of the University teachers union had waded into the rift between its local branch union in the Ebonyi State University and the State authorities but the move did not yield any positive results.

Addressing reporters after a closed-door meeting at the new Government House, Abakaliki, ASUU National Vice President, Professor Emmanuel Osadeke, said the meeting had ended in deadlock, accusing the government of highhandedness.

But the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education, Onyebuchi Chima, who was also at the meeting, countered the position of the Union, insisting that the ASUU leadership was not prepared with their facts before coming for the meeting.

It is unclear what will be the faith of academic activities at the Ebonyi State University as schools across the country reopen for studies as the local ASUU and Ebonyi State government crisis lingers in the State government-owned institution.
