As schools resume in Jos, the Plateau state capital, there are calls on the national assembly to have a rethink on their proposal to possibly shut down schools for another period of three months as a result of the second wave of the Coronavirus which is said to be more deadly.

Reporters visited some schools to monitor the level of compliance to the covid-19 protocol as directed by the federal ministry of education and also the turn out of students.

There is no doubt that the Coronavirus has impacted negatively on the progress of education in the country which many are worried that any further closure of schools could set the nation backwards.

Some of the schools visited proved their readiness to commence classes following provisions of hand washing points, strict adherence to the use of face mask amongst others.

Some teachers are, however, worried of plans by the national assembly to possibly shut down schools for three months in a bid to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.

Public Primary Schools in the state still remain under lock and key as striking teachers said they will not resume classes until the state government pays them their thirty thousand naira minimum wage.
