Militants attack shipyard, destroy property in Akwa Ibom

Militants have attacked a shipyard in Oruk Anam local government area of Akwa Ibom state destroying property worth millions of naira. According to the management of the shipyard, the militants demanded 20 million Naira yearly as a settlement before operations could commence.

For the promoters of this Shipyard in the boundary shoreline of Ikot Ukpong in Oruk Anam local government of Akwa Ibom state, preparations were in top gear for the launch of the 9metre MV Swift security vessel this weekend,

Planned as a boost to the industrial agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel aimed at creating jobs and wealth for the people, suspected militants raided the shipyard and caused severe destruction at the facility.

Chairman of the shipyard, Charles Udonwa recounts and laments the despicable act. Udonwa said the investment was his own way of creating jobs and helping in the development of the state and felt discouraged by the ugly incident.

He appealed to the governments of Akwa Ibom and Rivers states to wade into matter for the benefit of all.

The militants were captured on video patrolling the waters unhindered.
