Kano Local councils inaugurate Appeal and Petition Tribunals

The Chief Judge of Kano state, Justice Nura Sagir, on Tuesday, inaugurated members of Kano local government councils election appeal tribunal and local government councils election petition tribunal with a call on members to dispense justice without fear or favour.

Justice Ibrahim Musa Karaye is appointed chairman of the election appeal tribunal. The APC won all 44 chairmanship and 484 councillorship positions in the election held on Saturday, January 16.

The setting up of the local government election appeal tribunal and election petition tribunal is pursuant to section 36 subsection 4 of Kano state local government electoral law 2002.

Members of the election appeal tribunal are Justice Ibrahim Musa Karaye, justice Jamilu Suleman, and justice Maryam Sabo.

Two panels of the local government election petition tribunal have magistrate Muhammad Jubrin and Ruqayya Sabo as chairmen. other members of the panel are Abubakar Sadiq, Fatima Ismail, Kabiru Abubakar and Mahmud Shirama.

The state electoral law provides for 14 days for petition from the day of the election for petition to be filed.

Judgement is to be delivered within 60 days from the day the petition is filed.
