Edo Residents who decide to go against the COVID-19 safety protocols put in place by the State Government to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic should be ready to face penalties set aside for anyone who violates the guidelines.

This was made public by Governor Godwin Obaseki who is the Chairman of the State COVID-19 Taskforce and Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, Chairman of the Technical Sub- Committee in Benin City.

The Edo State Government is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to ensure that the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic does not gain a foothold in the state.

To make certain that this is achieved, newly graduated constabularies of the state community policing programme have been drafted to ensure compliance of the established COVID-19 safety protocols.

Governor Obaseki insisted that the laid down guidelines and rules spelt out for the purpose of keeping residents safe from the virus are followed to the letter.

Shaibu also embarked on an enforcement exercise to some public places in the city centre. He admonished those he encountered on the need to adhere strictly to the protocols.

The exercise came to a climax at the Edo Specialist Hospital. There the Deputy Governor read the riot act to the public.

The State Government is hopeful that with strict compliance with established procedures, the second wave will be checked on time.
