Three persons were burnt to death on Tuesday while six others suffered varying degrees of injuries as a petrol tanker suffered a brake failure while descending the new Kuto overhead bridge in Abeokuta as the driver lost control, ramming the vehicle into the edge of the bridge and exploded.

The incident occured on the Presidential Boulevard Road around Guarantee Trust Bank opposite Lawson Group School where pupils are in class for academic session.

The ill-fated tanker was travelling to Abeokuta from Sagamu-Isiun-Kobape axis and it was laden with 33,000 litres of fuel and led to pandemonium as motorists and others scampered for safety.

Those injured have been rushed to the General Hospital in Ijaiye for treatment while 13 cars were burnt as the wreckage of the vehicles is being cleared for road users to access.
