Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state southeast Nigeria says his administration will continue to give the Nigerian Army the necessary support in its fight for national unity.
Governor Ugwuanyi gave the assurance at this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Enugu.
This year’s event was held at the premises of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army Enugu instead of the usual venue, Michael Okpara Square.
Governor Ugwuanyi who was the guest of honour at the event later presented bags of rice and a cheque of 10 million naira to both the wives of the fallen heroes and wives of the serving army officers.
Ugwuanyi also inspected the vocational and acquisition skill center where he was received by the wife of the GOC, Rashidat Adegboye.
The General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army Enugu, Major General Lasisi Adegboye, commended the governor for his contributions to the welfare of the Nigerian Army over the years.
He explained that the yearly Armed Forces Remembrance Day offers the opportunity for everyone not only to remember the fallen heroes but to pray for the departed souls and their families.
The Governor had on his arrival inspected the guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Nigerian Army Enugu.
