A 6.2 magnitude earthquake that rocked the Sulawesi Island in Indonesia, just this morning at about 1:30 AM northeast of Majene, has left thirty-five dead and several others injured.
The disaster comes barely a fortnight from the unfortunate incident of the Indonesian plane crash for which bits and pieces have just been recovered.
The current count shows that 60 homes, two hotels, the Mitra Manakarra Hospital, and the Governor’s office in Mamuju. Local authorities have disclosed that several people remain trapped under the rubble and attempts are underway to rescue as many as possible.
The Indonesian President, Joko Widodo has urged all to mean calm despite news of an aftershock with the possibility of another quake that could trigger a tsunami.
