A terms and conditions document one step too far have awakened a growing rebuttal and defiance in the minds of several end-users in what will appear to be the first display of input into what really happens with their data.
Data-driven Zuckerberg appears to have taken a wrong step with trying to force WhatsApp users globally to merge their data with Facebook. A decision with far-reaching consequences.
Not only have some notable individuals such as Turkish President, Erdogan and Elon Musk ditched the app, Jack Dorsey, the Twitter founder also endorsed the app inspiring many others to follow suit and head in droves to Signal, WhatsApp’s boldest competition yet which promises everything WhatsApp hopes to take away should the new terms and conditions go into effect.
Signal, created by the two original founders behind WhatsApp, promises complete end-to-end encryption and is currently suffering from overload on its servers in a bid to cater to the burgeoning users leaving WhatsApp into its welcoming arms.
Signal has currently toppled WhatsApp as the most popular app in India, other markets are also chugging along on a similar path.
Can Zuckerberg recover from this catastrophic decision, maybe if he retraces his step before the worst hits, or maybe if a miracle happens?
Time will tell!
