The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has described as ‘Sorrow Gift’ and ‘Adamant Desire’ the increase in the electricity Tariff by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) at the beginning of the news year 2021.

The Union Chairman in Cross River State, Comrade Ben Ukpebi stated this in Calabar while reacting to the recent announcement of the hike in tariff by the federal government agency.

Ukpebi who lamented the daily suffer in Nigeria due to the harsh economy vowed to mobilise Nigerian workers starting from Cross River State to resist the increase in electricity tariff ,saying the hike will lead to rise in inflation and cost of good and services across the Country.

There were however mixed reactions among the residents of Calabar, who spoke with our correspondent on the issue, with a call for stability in distribution of electricity before increase in tariff.

The Union said the Nigerian economy is not ready for any increase in electricity tariff due to a recession, pointing out that the increase would lead to job loss in a country where unemployment is at a high rate.
