NIMC staff embark on indefinite strike

The staff of the National Identity Management Communication (NIMC) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State have on Thursday embarked on an indefinite strike over poor conditions of service.

The protest consequently shuts down indefinitely, the ongoing national identity number registration in Bayelsa State, a development that has surprised many people wanting to register.

The leader of the protesters, Paul Soroh, said they have been put under immense pressure to ensure Nigerians get their NIN, despite Federal Government’s failure to provide necessary tools to do their jobs function effectively.

He explained that the protest was nationwide, as staff of the parastatal can no longer to work without Personal Protection Equipment, despite been listed as essential workers by the federal government in its campaign to stem the spread COVID-19 nationwide.’
