Eni has announced the discovery of oil in the Meleiha Concession in the Western Desert of Egypt. The feat was achieved through the Arcadia 9 well which discovered an 85-foot oil column.

Following the discovery, three oil wells the Arcadia 9, 10, and 11 were drilled until a 25-foot column and 80-foot oil column were discovered.

Eni holds 38 per cent interest in the Meleiha plant while the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation holds a 50% stake, the remaining 12% is beholden to Lukoil.

The successful exploration across the western desert was a joint venture between Eni and the EGPC as disclosed in a statement released by Eni. Eni had also earlier in the year also discovered oil in the South West of the same Meleiha concession in June.
