The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Iheakwazu has disclosed that the growing disregard for the social distancing guidelines will be felt in January by all.

He disclosed that the country recorded more cases in the past week than the whole lifecycle since it began in late February.

He expressed displeasure at the carrying on of social activities in December and inferred that the actions are quite synonymous with the numbers.

Not only have people been engaging in compromising social activities, but there is also the implication of international travel has still not been banned and the fact that some passengers fail to take the post-arrival PCR tests while observing social distancing.

In addition, Nigeria recently reported that 20 doctors lost their lives to the virus.

In conclusion, he warned that January will be a tough month as Nigerians not only is the NCDC struggling to cope with the increasing number of infections but many will have to face the consequences of violating the COVID-19 guidelines in December.
