Governor Okezie Ikpeazuof Abia State has announced that hitherto, a collection of levies from motorists will be discontinued statewide across major roads.
He explained that this is to put an end to touts harassing motorists. In addition, he ordered the dispersal of all collection agents across major roads in the state as the activity will now be deemed illegal.
He also authorized police officers to arrest any individuals who engage in such practices and he will do all possible to enforce the ban. Read his statement in part below.
It has become illegal for any revenue agent under any guise whatsoever to waylay or harass motorists or other road users along major roads in the state.
